Frequently Asked Course Questions

You will receive course materials which may include a binder, handouts and other paper materials along with a pen to use during class.

A refreshment center is located in the back of the classroom with complimentary coffee, tea, soda and water along with a variety of snacks.  The refreshment center includes a small refrigerator, toaster and microwave.

You may bring a laptop to take notes and check your email during breaks.  If you are taking a test for the course you will be notified prior to the course to ensure you bring a device that is compatible.  NPTI has a few laptops also available to take an online course if required as a loaner.

A portion of the training will take place inside the Fuel Systems Training Center classroom. However, some of the training may take place at our outdoor demonstration area and you may be required to walk outside to inspect various pieces of equipment, therefore, we advise that you wear comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes (please no high heels due to the open grating).

The courses begin at 8:00 am (Eastern Time) and conclude at 4:30 pm (Eastern Time). There is a lunch break from approximately 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm and various breaks throughout the day. Note: Lunch is not provided.

When you pull into the driveway from Reisterstown Rd, continue straight thru the chain link wide gate and bear to the left of the garage and dumpster.   Park in the back large lot or directly in front of the NPTI building.   

Check the NPTI home page or call 855-955-NPTI for the most up-to-date weather related cancellations. Students will be allowed to reschedule at no charge if the course is cancelled due to weather.

Yes, Free Wi-Fi is available in the NPTI Fuel Systems Training Center and you will receive the username and password to access Wi-Fi on the first day of the course.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Paid registrations canceled in writing at least 35 calendar days in advance of a class will receive a full refund, (less the 4% service transaction fee). Paid cancellation received in writing 34 to 7 calendar days before a class will receive a refund of 50% of the registration fee (less the 4% service transaction fee). There will be no refunds or credits on cancellation requests received less than 7 calendar days before a class is to begin. All requests for cancellation must be submitted in writing to NPTI

Transfers and Substitutes

Transfer to another course is permitted one time. Transfer requests must include the class which you are transferring. Substitutes may be sent with prior approval of NPTI.  Substitutes must meet the requirements for education and experience. All requests for transfers and substitutes must be submitted in writing to NPTI.

Our Fuel Systems Training Center is located in Owings Mills, MD and includes a hands-on training center for Underground and Aboveground storage tanks. Our unique training facility includes a state-of-the-art classroom and an outdoor demonstration area. By combining traditional classroom learning with real-world practical experience our students are better prepared to meet the complex challenges this industry will face in the future.

UST Inspector Course

This five-day course prepares experienced tank personnel with the specific requirements and tasks necessary for compliance inspection of existing UST’s. Details of required inspection items, along with necessary tools and site work are reviewed. Although this course is organized to follow the MDE Inspection Report, this class is intended for UST inspectors all over the country.

STI/SPFA SP001 AST Inspector Certification

This five-day course is specifically designed for contractors, engineers and/or owners who are responsible for the inspection of shop fabricated and smaller field erected aboveground storage tanks (AST’s) of petroleum and chemical products. It meets the requirements of 40 CFR 112 as an industry standard.

Awarded certification as an STI SP001 AST Inspector

Facility Operator Certification (Class A, B, C Operators)

This one-day course specifically addresses the requirements for proper training of Class A, B and C Operators per the guidance provided by the EPA. The MDE regulations are quite specific on the requirements of Fuel Facility Owners concerning the training and certifications for all Facility Operators (i.e., A, B and C personnel).

UST Refresher Course

This one-day refresher course is oriented towards already certified tank inspectors, technicians and removers in need of continuing education hours for their renewal requirements. This course will focus on the current UST regulations, avoiding common pitfalls with new tank installation, removals and maintenance/upgrade operations at existing facilities.
